Pathways to Physical Activity in Keighley

Sport and physical activity is fun!! Why not go find your mountain today and, in the words of a well-known sports equipment manufacturer, “Just Do It!”

The sportKeighley initiative and this website is designed to help individuals and/or groups of people in Keighley and district, no matter what their age, level of fitness, level of health, sex, creed or background, to find a route to participate in what is going on in the area.

This may be via school to club links, via community groups, via health referral or via governing body development routes.

There are two main aims for the development of physical activity pathways:

* To try to overcome any perceived barriers to participation (eg, “it’s too expensive”, “I’m not good enough”, “It’s only for experts” “I haven’t got the right kit”, etc).

* To encourage people to develop their full potential, whatever that is, and fulfil the basic sportKeighley premise that “You don’t have to travel far to take part in sport and physical activity, even at the highest level.”

sportKeighley at launch of Yorkshire Sports Strategy 2006
The launch of the Sport England Yorkshire Sports Strategy took place at Headingley, Leeds on Friday 16th December.
It was great to see sportKeighley and Keighley in general highlighted as one of the success stories of the region, and to see how, via the new Single System for Sport, much of the work we have done here will be repeated across the region, and also how, with the recognition that local partnerships are the way forward, we will get the encouragement and the clout to move things forward in Keighley
